HOW TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT RACISM

HOW TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT RACISM

You’ve seen the headlines and the discussions at school board meetings. You know it’s important, but maybe you don’t know where to start.

Based on the book How To Teach Your Children about Racism by Dr. Lulu (Uchenna Umeh MD, MBA), this 6 session workshop gives you the knowledge and a plan to teach your kids about racism. We’ll learn about the personal work, vocabulary,  concepts, and day to day examples of living more actively antiracist. Then we each build a plan for our families together.

What you’ll take away from this workshop:

  • Knowledge about racism, how to identify it, and how it impacts your children
  • Activities you can share with your family to introduce concepts about racism and antiracism
  • Vocabulary to help guide you through issues of racism and antiracism concepts
  • A set of breathing practices that will help you build resilience and your capacity to be uncomfortable
  • A community to support you and hold each other accountable to your plan

The principles of this workshop apply to all ages and is appropriate for caregivers and parents of all races, but especially those of white children.

We encourage you to purchase Dr. Lulu's book as the workshop content follows from it.

This workshop was created though a collaboration between Transforming Privilege and Dr. Lulu.
